Overuse of tools such as a musical instrument, computer keyboard or power tools can also lead to tissue damage causing pain. Tennis elbow is another injury used within the umbrella term RSI which occurs at the elbow and is mostly associated with playing tennis and other racquet sports.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition where the median nerve is compressed at the wrist causing tingling, numbness and weakness. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome became better know in the 1990's as the number of office jobs increased.

Tendonitis

Tendonitis or Tendinitis means the inflammation of a tendon and causes aches, pain and stiffness around the area of the tendon. With Tendonitis the pain is usually worse during and after activity and stiffer the day after. It is common for someone working on a factory production line, who has to repeat a motion to develop tendonitis of the elbow, shoulder or wrist.

Tenosynovitis

Tenosynovitis is the inflammatory of the fluid surrounding the tendon and can cause pain, swelling and difficulty moving the joint. The condition can also cause a joint to 'stick' in a flexed position. This injury is often seen after repeated use of hand tools.

Employees working as factory assembly workers, musicians, dressmakers, cleaners are more likely to suffer with repetitive strain injury.
